Braces
Braces are brackets glued to your teeth and joined by a wire. The orthodontist adjusts the wire over time to move your teeth. They are for people who want teeth moved and are fine with something fixed on their teeth.
What happens
Braces are usually worn from about a year and a half to a little over two years.

Step 1: Estimate and plan
The orthodontist shows you the bracket choices (metal or clear) and gives you the fee in writing.
- 02
Step 2: Putting them on
Your teeth are cleaned and dried, brackets are attached and the first wire goes in. It usually takes one visit.
- 03
Step 3: Adjustments
Every several weeks the wire or the small elastic bands are changed. You choose band colors if you want them.
- 04
Step 4: Taking them off
The brackets come off in a short visit and you get retainers the same day or soon after.
Your orthodontist gives you a range for your own teeth. It can be shorter or longer.
Comfort, choices and care
Comfort
Putting braces on doesn't need numbing for most people. Teeth and gums can feel sore for a few days after the first visit and after some adjustments. Soft food helps, and you can ask for a break at any point.
If you wait
Teeth that are crowded or out of line are harder to clean, and they don't move back by themselves. Some people decide to wait; the orthodontist will say what to watch for.
Risks and after-care
Brackets and wires trap food, so brushing and flossing take longer. Sugary drinks can leave marks on teeth. Hard or sticky food can break a bracket. We show you how to clean around them.
How it's billed
The fee is in your written estimate before treatment. With insurance, we file claims for plans that cover orthodontics; paying yourself or with a payment plan, you get an itemized receipt. No price is on this website.

Questions about braces
Do braces hurt?
Your teeth can feel sore for a few days after they go on and after some adjustments. Most people manage it with soft food. Tell us if it's more than you expected.
Can I choose clear brackets?
Often yes. The orthodontist will say which kinds suit your teeth, and the fee for each is in your estimate.
What if a bracket comes loose?
Call us. A loose bracket is rarely urgent, and we'll tell you whether to wait for your next visit or come in sooner.
Do I still see my regular dentist?
Yes. Keep your cleaning visits with your own dentist while you have braces.
